Nuremberg 4 August

We docked about 6:00am in Nuremberg Port. We had breakfast before the coach for our bus tour around Nuremberg. We saw a lot of places related to the Nazi war rallies & subsequent trials.

We drove past the fortifications around the old city seeing the old towers & moat which is no longer in use. From here we drove up to the Imperial Castle which was under refurbishment so we couldn’t go inside.

We were then dropped off in the Old Town where we had free time to wander for a couple of hours. The clock on Our Lady’s Church had a small glockenspiel that went off at 12:00 noon. We wandered around & looked at the markets & old bridges before heading back to the bus stop to go back to the ship for lunch at 1:30.

At the Port Talk this evening the Captain announced that we were unable to travel on the Emerald Star any further than Regensberg. The Danube River was too low for us & any other ships to proceed. We would be spending an extra night in Regensberg before being bussed to Linz in Austria. We would still stop at Passau for our walking tour & lunch before boarding the bus once again at 3:30 for our destination.

Today we travelled through the 3 highest locks of the Main-Danube Canal – the highest being 24.7m. As soon as dinner finished we all assembled on the forward sun deck for the High Lock Celebration. It was certainly a surreal event.
