Kendal 21 August

We left the hotel at 8:30am. It was cloudy & soon turned into rain which lasted most of the day.

We enjoyed the scenery as we drove to Gretna Green, the home of weddings very close to the Scotland/England Border. One of the couples on the tour celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary a couple of days ago & today they renewed their vows – Gretna Green style. It was a fun ‘ceremony’.

We continued on through the Lakes District to Grasmere where we had our lunch break in the pouring rain and visited William Wordsworth's grave before heading on to Lake Windermere for a boat cruise & steam train ride.

We decided not to go as it was too wet so went on the coach to meet the others at the train station. We had one of the famous scones & a coffee while we waited.

From here it was only a short ride to Kendal where we are staying for the night. The hotel was very spread out & we were on the 2nd floor with no lifts. We had dinner at the pub. I had a delicious baked vegetable lasagne with chips & salad. The serves were so big we couldn’t fit in any dessert.
