Singapore 7 July

After a good night’s sleep we headed down to have breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant. Our adventures today saw us exploring the city’s underground rail system. What an amazing thing. It is a bit scary to realise the trains are all computerised & there is no driver. The lines are colour coded so it’s a case of get on, off to get & swap lines to where you need to go. We went to the City Hall Station to purchase our 2-day visitor MRT cards then the fun began. Our first main stop was Haw Par Villa (Tiger Balm Gardens) which we had visited back in 1975, the last time we were here. There are so many sculptures but unfortunately it has fallen into a state of disrepair. Many of the sculptures are looking worn and are in need of a good maintenance job.

It was extremely hot & humid again today but we remembered to take our water bottles, hat & umbrella today. From Haw Par we were back on the train to Chinatown. We had a look around but the heat was so bad we headed to get a nice cold drink before catching another train back to the hotel for a bit of a reprieve.

Once we had recharged our batteries, we headed off on the train again this time to the Gardens by the Bay. We went into the Flower Dome & the Cloud Dome. The Cloud Dome had a huge waterfall & was very damp inside. The plants grew up vertical walls with lots of sky walking tracks spread over 7 levels.

The Flower Dome was running with the Flowery Theme in Nursery Rhymes as part of Singapore’s 50 Year celebrations. Gardens from various countries were represented including Australia as well of lots of Nursery Rhyme themed displays. Nursery Rhymes & songs were playing in the background the whole time.

We stopped off to get some dinner on the way back to the hotel and arrived there about 7:30pm.
