Pisa 16 July

It was an extreme long drive today heading to the leaning tower in Pisa first and passing through approximately 90 tunnels on the way.

We passed into Italy and were able to see the marble quarries up in the mountains where Michelangelo selected his marble.

We arrived there about 1:30. The temperatures were very warm in the high 30C’s. There was very little shelter anywhere around. We were not meeting the guide until 2:30 so had time to wander around before our tour began. We got to have a look inside the Baptistry & St Peter’s Basilique. (Note: most of the main cathedrals seem to be in honour of St Peter.) We got the drum on the building & restoration of the leaning tower and then took the obligatory photos.

We then headed back to the coach to resume our trip to Florence arriving there about 5:30 when we met up with our guide & did a tour of Florence arriving at our hotel about 7:00pm.

We had dinner & then pretty much flopped into bed. The heat is so draining.
