Our flight departed Brisbane International Airport on time.
We had a good flight and arrived in Singapore at 5:25 local time. We checked in
at the Holiday Stopover counter after passing through Immigration &
Customs. A bus picked us up from Changi Airport & dropped us off at the
Peninsula Excelsior Hotel. After checking n to our room we caught up on some
lost sleep before venturing out. Temperature 28C and very humid at 6:00am.
At 10:30am we headed out to explore. We caught the Hop
on/Hop off bus and did a bit of sightseeing from the top deck of the open bus.
Stop 12 was the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
We got off the bus for a look
around. First port of call was to get a bottle of water before heading down
Heliconia Walk where we saw an amazing variety of these.
We then headed to the
Orchid House. As we were walking there, the skies opened and we experienced a
tropical downpour. We took shelter in the gift shop until it passed then
proceeded to walk the paths of many beautiful orchids. It was extremely muggy
after the rain & my glasses kept fogging up.
We headed back to the bus stop
to await the next bus. We continued on the sightseeing route to Stop 19 –
Raffles Hotel where we found somewhere to have lunch. From there we walked 3
blocks back to the Hotel arriving about 3:00pm. After resting our weary bones
for a couple of hours we were ready for more adventures.
Feeling refreshed again we walked down to Clarke Quay where
we took a Singapore River cruise. It is amazing to see the contrast of the old
& new buildings. The best sight would have to have been the Marina Bay
Sands Hotel. After our cruise we went & had dinner at the hotel restaurant before heading back up to the room for an early night.
