Vatican & Rome 18 July

We left the hotel this morning at 8:15 this morning as we had an appointment at the Vatican.

 

 

The queues were unbelievable but as we had a reservation we got in reasonably quickly. We viewed the Vatican museums & then went into the Sistine Chapel. It is absolutely awesome. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take any photos of this magnificent artwork.

 

We then continued on to, you guessed it – St Peter’s Basilique. Another magnificent cathedral. Apparently this week is the hottest week in Rome for 136 years. We had an hour to look around after our guided tour before heading back to the coach.

From here we drove back towards the hotel where we viewed the Colloseum & ancient Roman ruins.

We had the afternoon free. After a bit of a rest & in the hope that the weather cooled down, we went for a walk to view the ruins of the old Roman Forum.
